Pioneers in zero waste fashion design since the beggining of their brand ‘Cunnington & Sanderson’ in 2012, John and Matthew have refined their skills and knowledge into a 1 day masterclass which they have presented at various higher education institutes over the past 8 years, including:- The Glasgow School of Art, H.E.A.D – Geneve University of Art and Design, Liverpool John Moores University, Leeds Beckett University, Nottingham Trent University, University of Leeds, and Leeds Art University to name a few.
The Zero Waste Draping Workshop called ‘No Wasted Jam’, demonstrates innovative techniques that eliminate fabric waste while creating beautiful, sustainable garments. These masterclass showcases their commitment to sustainable fashion design and educating the next generation of designers.
The workshop aims to educate the students about the importance of sustainable fashion and to learn the craft and process of intuitive design with zero-waste draping.
Each drape is controlled and selectively positioned upon the body form, sensitively draped by hand with skilled craftsmanship.
The students are introduced to John & Matthew brand’s sustainable processes and guided with the brand’s refined draping exercises on the mannequin, before experimenting with creativity, recording the process and design development, pattern cutting by measuring and making their own unique paper pattern and concluding by constructing and sewing their own innovative and timeless zero-waste design.
The student’s discover and learn sustainable fashion design techniques in the Zero Waste Draping Workshop. Discovering innovative draping methods that eliminate fabric waste both in the design process and in the garmnet production stage. Final garments are 100% zero waste, genderless, creative, unique, innovative, sustainable, and very beautiful. Individual to the creator, organic in form, creating a ‘never-before-seen’ garment design.
